What is the track record of these techniques?
Through the years, the owner of this site (Peter Horwood) has worked with several tax strategies and businesses. To date:
  • All have been successful (and several were audited by Rev Canada to determine that they were appropriate), and
  • None of the companies that Peter has been in charge of have lost money - all have been profitable, and
  • Rev. Canada has never disallowed the tax strateges he has used. But will they work forever?

The list of options Peter is involved in is usually a short list, the current list is below.

Peter will be happy to answer your questions via email, fax, phone or in person, whichever method(s) are your preference(s). He promises no hard sell, just information to give you the tools you need to decide.

Did the 2006 Federal budget effect the current ones?
The good news, in summary is: it didn't! In reading through the full budget, even the fine print, (someone has to!), I saw nothing that affects the programs.

We know the Harper government is very aware of these programs, so it can not be simply an oversight. As a result, without any changes, the programs will continue to aid Canadians in their tax burden while assisting others as well.

While most tax breaks are for 'the rich' - this is the best one for the average person
Save appoximately 30-50% on your taxes. The earlier in the year you participate, the greater your savings in taxes. The rate also varies by province. In provinces where you pay less taxes, like Alberta, the rate is closer to 30%, in others like Ontario, the rate is closer to the 50%.
Notice that it is not a misprint! Saving 30-50% on your taxes can be a reality for you!

The paperwork takes about 5 minutes to do and there are no fees for you to pay.
For more information on this program, join our newsletter list (See the Sign-Up! above.) There is no cost for signing up and you will not receive any high pressure sales tactics.

Of course if this is your first time, you will have several questions (like WHY did I choose THAT picture to go with this topic) and want the details explained first and that will take more than 5 minutes

A couple quick 2006 Federal budget comments
Harper improves benefits for donating generally: If you are donating to your church or other favorite charity, consider donating those publicly traded shares you own. Effective with this budget, you will be charged zero capital gains, and as a result, you will multiply the value of your charitable giving in this way too! Tip: Donate the shares that have gone up the most in value. Do not donate shares that have gone down in value: if you must, sell them first, take the capital loss, then donate the cash.

Public Transportation encouraged: Don't buy your bus tickets past July 1st, 2006. Only buy what you need up to the end of June because everything purchased after that is now a tax deductible expense!

Do you have children under 16 in 2007? Improve their health by enrolling them in soccer, hockey or a similar program. Starting in 2007, approved programs will allow you to deduct the first $500 in fees from your taxes. Verify that the program in question does indeed qualify.
Canadian INCORPORATED companies:
If you spend money on software or other projects that do not have a guaranteed chance of success, have you considered SR&ED ITC's? If you have a budget of $1,000,000 or more for this/these project(s), it is worth your while to check into this and participate. Typically Peter no longer typicially has time willing to handle this for you, but there are companies out there that can, so shop around.

For this to work, you have to be working on creating something (software, physical, intellectual or other "product") where there is at least a tiny chance you won't be successful. One of the limitations can be "successful with a specific budget", or you can be 'sure' you can do it but you don't yet know how (the "I know I can find a way") - that also qualifies. However, if you are sure you can do the product and you know how, but you are unsure whether you can sell it - that type of uncerntainty doesn't count!
